University of Lynchburg Track Star Frank Csorba Dies in Accidental Shooting

Frank Csorba, a 23-year-old track star and graduate student at the University of Lynchburg, died on April 30, 2024, in an accidental shooting while cleaning his gun after using it at a shooting range. The news of his untimely death was shared by his mother, Jessica Csorba, in a Facebook post on Saturday, May 4, 2024, to address the rumors circulating online about his death.

Csorba was a talented athlete who excelled in track and field events, particularly the 400-meter hurdles. He was a member of the University of Lynchburg’s track and field team and had represented the university in various competitions. In addition to his athletic prowess, Csorba was pursuing a master’s degree in business administration at the university.

According to Jessica Csorba’s Facebook post, her son had been at a shooting range with friends earlier in the day and was cleaning his gun at home when the accidental discharge occurred. The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating the incident, but no foul play is suspected.

The University of Lynchburg community has been deeply affected by Csorba’s death. In a statement, the university expressed its condolences to Csorba’s family and friends and offered support to students, faculty, and staff during this difficult time. The university also acknowledged Csorba’s contributions to the track and field team and his dedication to his studies.

“Frank was an exceptional young man who touched the lives of everyone he met,” said Dr. Kenneth Garren, president of the University of Lynchburg. “His passion for athletics and academics was infectious, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

Csorba’s teammates and coaches have also shared their thoughts on his passing. Coach John Smith, who worked closely with Csorba on the track and field team, described him as a hardworking and dedicated athlete who always put his team first.

“Frank was a true leader on and off the track,” said Coach Smith. “He had a positive attitude and was always willing to help his teammates improve. His loss is a tremendous blow to our team and the entire Lynchburg community.”

Friends and classmates have also expressed their shock and sadness at Csorba’s death. Many have taken to social media to share memories and tributes to the young athlete, highlighting his kindness, determination, and infectious smile.

“Frank was one of the most genuine and caring people I’ve ever met,” said Sarah Johnson, a friend and classmate of Csorba’s. “He always had a kind word for everyone and was always willing to lend a hand. His passing is a huge loss for our community, and he will be deeply missed.”

The University of Lynchburg has announced that it will be holding a memorial service for Csorba in the coming weeks, with details to be shared with the community as they become available. In the meantime, the university has encouraged students, faculty, and staff to take advantage of the counseling services available on campus to help them cope with their grief.

As the Lynchburg community mourns the loss of Frank Csorba, his legacy as a talented athlete, dedicated student, and kind-hearted friend will continue to inspire those who knew him.
